On what day was our Savior resurrected?

Correcting the Sunday myth!

Most believers seem to think that Yeshua (Jesus) was resurrected on a Sunday and attempt to use Luke 24:1-10 as proof and justification to change God's seventh day Sabbath to the first day. But is this a huge mistake! Where and when did God ever tell us that Sunday is now HIS Sabbath? The answer lies indisputably in the Bible which, when viewed from a "Hebrew perspective", tells us that Yeshua was resurrected at the end of the Sabbath; not early on a Sunday morning (the first day).

Man has debated the time of Messiah's resurrection for the last two thousand years. Catholics and Christians have even based their Sunday worship on the mistaken assumption that "Jesus rose on a Sunday". Rather than to view the Bible from God's perspective and the clear Scriptures He provided, we have used our limited, human mindsets to lead us down the wrong path and come up with the wrong conclusions - which means our view of the Gospels is skewed.

In order to back up this very serious allegation, we will use hermeneutics: allowing Scripture to intepret Scripture:

Matthew 12: 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall NO SIGN be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

Matthew 16: 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall NO SIGN be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

What was the "sign of Jonas"?

Matthew 12: 40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Matthew 12: 41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

The SIGN for which we are searching is "Three days and three nights" (Luke 24:21) 72 hours from death/burial to resurrection of our Savior.

Matthew 16: 21 From that time forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

Matthew 17: 23 And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

Matthew 20: 19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.

(See also Matthew 27:64; Mark 9:31; Mark 10:34; Luke 9:22; Luke 13:32; Luke 18:33; Luke 24:7; Luke 24:46; Acts 10:40; and 1 Corinthians 15:4.)

A thorough study of the Bible reveals that Yeshua was in the grave three days and three nights, and it tells us that He died on Passover which was during the High Holy Days (14 Nisan [see Leviticus 23:5]). This article will show that He was in the grave just before sunset on Wednesday night, according to Scripture (John 19:31); all day Thursday and Thursday night; all day Friday and Friday night, and all day Saturday (as Jonah was in the whale three days and three nights) until just before sunset on Saturday when He was resurrected.

To begin with, in order to discern exactly when our Savior rose, it is important recognize a few things - beginning with the fact that the "dawning of a new day" according to YHWH is at twilight as it is getting dark; not first light in the morning!

(NOTE: According to Aramaic scholar and author Andrew Gabriel Roth, Aramaic literally reads "b'ramsha din b'shabata", or "in the evening of the Shabbat". The literal meaning of ramsha is "evening" or erev, but here it is used idiomatically. The dawn and set of the sun is not the only use; there is the "dawn of a new era" or as John 19:31 reads "mitil d'shabata negha","the Shabbat was dawning." When we compare other verses that record this event, the time of the day being referred to is clearly more than half a day before literal dawn. In John chapter 19, when they put Y'shua into the tomb, they still refer to it as being "day", both in Aramaic and Greek. The "dawn" metaphor "to begin" is confirmed in John 19:42. A more literal form, "mitil d'shabata aiala", would be read as "the Sabbath was beginning/ entering/ coming about". What is true for "dawning" is also true of "setting" in the sense of "conclusion", as is meant here. This agrees with Greek version, Aramaic information in Matthew, and with other writers in the NT.)

Genesis 1: 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning-the first day.

We also need to note the time that Yeshua was placed into the grave, which was at sunset - or approximately 5 p.m. (March-April timeframe). No matter what the days are called on our modern calendars, there is no way that 72 hours beginning sometime in the evening can end early on the morning three days later - which is what most Christian scholars are trying to insist.

The Bible tells us that Yeshua died at 3 p.m. (the ninth hour - John 19:14); that He was buried later that day (John 19:31); and that He was in the grave "three days and three nights" (72 hours).

Matthew 27: 45 From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.

Matthew 27: 46 And about the ninth hour, Y'shua cried out with a loud voice and said, My El! My El! Why have you spared me?* (See also Mark 15:33-34 and Luke 23:44)

*The above scripture was borrowed from the Aramaic English New Testament by Andrew Gabriel Roth, which was translated directly from Aramaic into English. Roth writes: Y'shua was not necessarily quoting Psalm 22, although the imagery of the Pslam (Psalm) is certainly intended by Matthew. Greek is transliterated Eli, Eli lama sabacthani, but Peshitta and Psalm 22 read: Eli, Eli lama azbatani.

Many Bibles read "forsaken" from which came a false teaching that the Father left Y'shua destitute (Marcionite thinking). Isaiah 53:4 indicates that "we" reckoned him smitten of Elohim, but it is not YHWH who tortured his own son, it was men motivated by religious tradition. Psalm 22 references those who scorned Y'shua for his Faith in YHWH, and called him a worm (detested), but Father YHWH does not forsake the righteous, nor does He at any time "forsake" His own Son, see Psalm 9:9, 10; 37:25; 71:11; Isaiah 49:14-16. Y'shua says "Eli" (my El), he is in great physical pain after being brutally tortured, those around him were confused to what he was saying, "Eli-yah" or "Eliyahu".

If Hebrew eyewitnesses were not sure of what he was saying, it shouldn't be a surprise that Greek transliteration was also wrong, putting "lama sabacthani" rather than "lemana shabakthani". Perhaps the reason Y'shua says "why are you sparing me" is because he has proven his commitment by laying down his life and has already endured about six hours of the execution! So, it's not a matter of being "forsaken" but that he literally means, "Father, I'm ready, why can't we finish this?" In a matter of moments from saying this, he dies, which fully supports this interpretation.

This being just before the High Holy Day, the Judeans wanted Him off the cross and in the grave before sundown so as not to desecrate the holiday, which meant He was in the grave at approximately 5 p.m. shortly after His crucifixion - which means that 72 hours later would also fall at approximately 5 p.m.! Here are the Scriptures to verify these facts:

John 19: 14 "Now it was the preparation day of the Passover, about the sixth hour."

John 19: 31 It was preparation Day, and the Judeans did not want the bodies to remain on the stake on a Shabbat, since it was an especially important Shabbat. So they asked Pilar to have the legs broken and the bodies removed. (Sterns Complete Jewish Bible)

Now, many people think this Shabbat fell on a Friday (since God's seven-day cycle begins at sundown on Friday evening). However, as we mentioned above, John 19:14 tells us it was not a regular Shabbat, but a High Holy Shabbat. Therefore, the Judeans wanted the bodies of Yeshua and the thieves off the crosses before sundown.

This means that Yeshua was placed in his grave before sunset that evening.

John 19: 41 In the vicinity of where he had been executed was a garden, and in the garden was a new tomb in which no one had ever been buried. 42 So, because it was Preparation Day for the Judeans, and because the tomb was close by, that is where they buried Yeshua. (Sterns Complete Jewish Bible)

The above Scripture shows that Yeshua was placed in the heart of the earth approximately 5:00 p.m., or before sunset on the day He died. Seventy-two hours must end at the time we start the counting - about 5:00 p.m., or before sunset, that night.

Even on the eve of His death, Messiah Yeshua kept and fulfilled the Passover: He died on Wednesday the 14th of Nisan, and He rose some time after 3:00 p.m. on the Sabbath exactlythree days later, depending on when He was placed in the grave. The Sabbath is in commemoration of YHWH's rest at creation (Genesis 2:2), and Yeshua's rest after His redemption of mankind. The Sabbath is for a reminder of the sign (three days and three nights) of who Yeshua HaMashiyach (Jesus Christ) is: He the Lord of the Sabbath.

Now, exactly how do we know that He died on the 14th of Nisan and that, that particular 14th of Nisan fell on a Wednesday? Because the 14th of Nisan is the day on which YHWH declared that the Feast of Passover should be celebrated FOREVER (Leviticus 23; Exodus 12:14)! And because of a series of events that took place just prior to the crucifixion:

  • Yeshua, the Passover Lamb, fulfilled Zechariah 9:9 when, on 10 Nisan (a Sabbath - Saturday), He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, as the people waved palm branches: 9 Rejoice with all your heart, daughter of Tziyon! Shout out loud, daughter of Yerushalayim! Look! Your king is coming to you. He is righteous, and he is victorious. Yet he is humble - he's riding on a donkey, yes, on a lowly donkey's colt. The Bible tells us that it was a Sabbath Day's journey from Bethany. He then taught in the Temple for three days: Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

  • As promised in Exodus 12:25-28 there was to be an explanation of the Passover service. This Messianic fulfillment took place when Yeshua showed His disciples how to celebrate the Passover Seder the evening before His death. During this time He explained how HE IS the fullfillment of the Passover seder (Luke 22:14-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). Just as He delivered the Israelites with a mighty hand from the bondage of Egypt, so is He delivering us from the bondage of sin with His mighty right hand! It was here that He explained the meaning of His person in the Passover elements. Afterwards, He and His disciples went to Gethsemene, where they spent part of the night.

  • During the night Yeshua was arrested and we are told that His trial continued until aproximately 9 a.m., when He was crucified. At 3:00 p.m. (the 9th hour) on Wednesday He died.

The following, borrowed from Derech Ministries, provides an indepth explanation:

Pesach/Passover happens in the spring of the year, on the 14th day of the Hebrew month Nisan. It was the day that God delivered His people from Mitzrayim/Egypt. God's deliverance was so awesome, that the calendar was forever changed. The month of Nisan (known as Aviv/Abib before the Babylonian captivity) became the first month of the Hebrew religious calendar from then on, as ordered by God in Shemot/Exodus 12:2. Pesach is a one day feast that is immediately followed by the seven-day Hag HaMatzot/Feast of Unleavened Bread.

God declared that Pesach be observed as a memorial forever (Shemot/Exodus 12:14) and it was to be kept as a service (Shemot/Exodus 12:25). The service included the lamb, matzah, and bitter herbs and to raise questions in the minds of children in order to rehearse the Exodus story in every generation (verse 26 & 27). The God of Israel also ordained many other observances to commemorate this moment in Exodus 12:43-13:16 (such as treating the first born as consecrated to Him).

Yeshua is seen as our Passover Lamb(1 Kefa/I Peter 1:19), and our Eternal Redemption. He was prophesied about, in this capacity, in Yesha'yahu/Isaiah 53. John the Baptist identified Yeshua as THE Lamb (Yochanan/John 1:29) who takes away the sin of the world, and takes our place just as the Passover lamb did. Rav Sha'ul/Paul lets us know how to become unleavened lives, through remembering that Yeshua was free of sin and sacrificed for us( 1 Corinthians 5:7). Once you've understood the Love and Gift we've been given, by Him who became sin for us,"who knew no sin" (2Corinthians 5:21)...it's very hard NOT to understand the taste of bitter herbs involved.

Historically, the Pesach in Mitzrayim can be seen in the fulfillment and representation of the Lamb of God. This Lamb, Yeshua HaMashiyach/Jesus Christ also took part in the Passover services as a child (Luke 2:41&42). As an adult He expressed His desire to observe the Passover with His talmidim (Luke 22:15-16). Yeshua took part in a Passover with His disciples and compared Himself, and His approaching Redemptive Act, to the items in the Passover Seder. There are several accounts in the Gospels of Mattityahu/Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Yochanan/John to reflect this (see Luke 22:14-20 and also 1 Corinthians 11:22-29).

During the week of our Lord's Passover (with Yeshua/Jesus), a chain of events occurred that paralleled that of the Pesach ritual.

Shortly before Pesach pilgrims would come to Jerusalem in bands, singing psalms, bringing their offerings as the Lord had blessed them. On the 10th of Nisan they would select from their flock or purchase from the priests their Pascal lamb. It would have been tied in a prominent place to be examined for the coming service.

On the 10th of Nisan, the people waved palm branches and shouted praises when Yeshua (whom Yochanan the Immerser/John the Baptist had proclaimed to be the Lamb of God) rode into the city on a donkey. They shouted Hosheanah and sang the Hallel. Yeshua, the Lamb of God, went to the Beit HaMikdash and spent four days there among the people, where all could examine him and see He was without spot or blemish. The religious leaders of that day (Sadducees, Pharisees, scribes...) asked Yeshua all types of difficult questions, and He answered them for all to see and hear.

On Nisan 14, at the 3rd hour (9 AM), Yeshua was nailed to a stake on a hill called Gulgolta directly east of the Beit HaMikdash.

Pilgrims would have passed by on their way to the Beit HaMikdash with their lambs in tow. Preparation for the sacrifices of the lambs would start at noon.

From noon until 3 PM (the 9th hour) darkness covered the land. (Mattityahu/Matthew 27:45) Around 3 PM each Israelite was to slay his lamb in the Beit HaMikdash. The lambs would have been taken in groups of 30 at a time. Priests would catch the blood in bowls and throw it at the base of the altar 'fire brigade' style passing gold and silver bowls in a line. The Hallel would be sung.

Yeshua died at exactly 3 PM becoming forever our Pascal Lamb who Redeemed us from a life of bondage in sin. (Mattityahu/Matthew 27:46-50)

The parokhet at the entrance to the Holy of Holies was torn in two from top to bottom as Yeshua would become our Cohen HaGadol taking our offerings directly. (Mattityahu/Matthew 27:51)

Within a generation the Beit HaMikdash would be destroyed causing the sacrificial system (and consequently the sacrifice of Pascal lambs) to end.

That evening, as the Israelites returned to their families to roast the Pascal lambs, Yeshua's/Jesus' body was wrapped in linen and placed in the tomb. Three days later as our Bikkurim He would rise to take His position as Melech/King and as Cohen HaGadol.

When Yeshua died, as a sacrifice for us, in our place, He portrayed the True Lamb of God who redeemed us eternally!!! Baruch HaShem! (Blessed be His Name)

How do we know He was resurrected BEFORE the weekly Sabbath (Saturday) ENDED?

Matthew 28: 1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

(Some versions read: "After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week.... This still does not mean that Yeshua rose on a Sunday, because in "Old Testament" times (and according to the Hebrew calendar), a new day began at sundown - which is still at least six hours from our modern time table where a new day begins at midnight. The bottom line is that, by the time the two Mary's arrived at Yeshua's tomb just before or just after SUNSET, Yeshua was nowhere to be found!)

As shown above, the Scriptures - read in context - are abundantly clear as to when our Savior died; when He was buried; and when He was resurrected. He did not rise on Sunday, and He never said to change His Sabbath to the first day of the week. Therefore, there is no reason for the mainstream Christian church to adhere to the Sunday Sabbath tradition.

The bottom line is: Will we obey God, or follow the opinions and traditions of man?

Crucifixion Week Chronology

http://www.familybible.org/pdf/CrucifixionWeekChronology.pdf

In the “things that make the rabbi go ‘Hmmm’” department:

For something like 1,500 years or more, the Church has taught us that Messiah was crucified a bit before noon on “Good Friday”, died sometime around 3:00 PM, and was resurrected at about sunrise (approximately 6:00 AM) on Easter Sunday morning. Yet Yeshua said that He would fulfill the “sign of Jonah” by being in the grave for “three days and three nights.” On every clock that I have been able to find, “three days and three nights” is a period of 72 hours, and there simply are not 72 hours between 3:00 PM on Friday and 6:00 AM on Sunday.

The Church justifies this discrepancy by (incorrectly) proposing that on the Jewish calendar, any portion of a day is counted as a full day and any portion of a night is considered a full night. Even if this were true (and it is not), between 3:00 PM on Friday and 6:00 AM on Sunday there are 39 (not 72) hours, and only two nights: Friday night and Saturday night. No matter how you trim and whittle, it is mathematically impossible to cram three days and three nights, or any portions of three days and three nights, into 39 hours.

So how can we resolve this problem? (I encourage you to be good Bereans, and click on the links for Scripture references and see what the Word actually says.)

Two things that we can know with absolute certainly:

1. Yeshua was totally Torah-observant. He simply would not — could not — violate the Passover. To do so would make him “a sinner” and an unsuitable sacrifice for our redemption.

2. The Scriptures are always correct! When Scripture disagrees with Scripture, or when the Scriptures are “wrong”, it is we who have arrived at the wrong interpretation.

With those two working pre-suppositions, we have a very interesting challenge in unraveling the chronology of the crucifixion week.

These are the facts as we know them.

1. Passover was given to Israel as a foreshadow of Messiah’s atoning sacrifice.

2. Passover is on 14th day of Nisan (formerly called Abib), and the lamb is to be slain “at twilight” (literally, “between the evenings”). (Exod. 12:6; Lev. 23:5)

3. The Passover Lamb is to be brought into the house for extensive examination on the 10th day of Nisan. (Exod. 12:3)

4. To fulfill the prophetic picture of Passover, Messiah had to enter Jerusalem and the Temple (be taken into the “House” — a Hebrew appellation for the Temple, from “My house shall be called a house of prayer”) on Nisan (Abib) 10 (on no other day), and be killed “between the evenings” on Nisan (Abib) 14 (on no other day).

5. The “sign of Jonah” was to be literally fulfilled: As Jonah was “in the belly of the fish” for three days and three nights (72 hours, Jonah 1:17), so Messiah was to be “in the heart of the earth” for three days and three nights (72 hours, Matthew 12:39-41). [Sorry, but that “any part of a day counts as a whole day” theory just won’t fly. “Three days and three nights” is English for a Hebrew phrase which means “three days and three nights.”]

6. First Fruits was literally fulfilled by the Resurrection (1Cor. 15:20,23), and therefore had to occur on the Day of First Fruits. But Yom HaBikkurim (the Day of First Fruits) is the first day of Shavuot (Exod. 34:22), seven weeks after Passover. However, there are two “First Fruits,” the barley first fruits and the wheat first fruits. Barley is the first of the winter planting to be harvested in Spring (Lev. 23:9-10); wheat isn’t harvested until almost two months later (Exod. 34:22).

7. On the Hebrew calendar, the day begins and ends at sunset, not at midnight. On Nisan 13 and 14, sunset occurs at approximately 6:30 (give or take a few minutes).

8. The three Synoptic Gospels confirm that Messiah’s last meal before He died was Passover (Matthew 26:17-20; Mark 14:12-16; Luke 22:7-12), yet his “trial” before Pilate occurred the next day on “the Day of Preparation”, which is the day before Passover.

9. Yeshua was in Bethany six days before Passover (“Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.” — John 12:1)

10. Yeshua’s teaching regarding Torah (but not the “Oral Tradition”) is consistently in line with the teaching of the Pharisees.

11. The Sadducees, who rejected all things supernatural, accepted only the five Books of Moses as inspired, and disagreed with the Pharisees on just about every issue, were in firm control of the Temple and the Priesthood, and therefore controlled the “Temple calendar.”

The known facts present a number of challenges to be resolved.

1. If the crucifixion occurred on “Good Friday” and the Resurrection occurred just before dawn on “Easter Sunday morning” there is absolutely no possible way to account for “the Sign of Jonah.” Assuming that Yeshua died shortly after 3:00 pm and was buried before the onset of the weekly Sabbath shortly before 6:30 pm, there is an absolute maximum of only 39 hours between His death and resurrection. Therefore, this interpretation must be discarded as intellectually untenable.

2. The Synoptic Gospels (Matt. 26:17, Mark 14:12, and Luke 22:7) all clearly affirm that the Talmidim prepared “the Passover” on “the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.”

3. In order to fulfill the prophetic sign of the Passover, it was essential that Messiah die at exactly the same time that the Passover Lamb was being sacrificed in the Temple! If the Talmidim prepared “the Passover” on “the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed,” and they ate the Passover Seder that evening after sunset, how is it possible for their Paschal lambs to have been sacrificed 24 hours before those which were being sacrificed at exactly the time that Yeshua died?

4. When the Sanhedrin “led [Yeshua] from Caiaphas into the Praetorium, and it was early; and they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium so that they would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover” (John 18:28). They were Sadducees, the chief priests of the Temple, and they did not enter the Praetorium because it was their Day of Preparation for the Passover, which would begin at sunset that evening. Yet Yeshua and His Talmidim ate their Passover Seder after sunset the previous evening (about 14 hours ago); therefore, on Yeshua’s calendar His trial was clearly being conducted on Passover!

5. The Sadducees calculated First Fruits as the day after the seventh-day Sabbath (the first day of the week) that comes after Passover (Lev. 23:9-10); apparently the Pharisees held that “the sabbath” referred to in Lev. 23:10 was Passover itself, and they celebrated “First Fruits” 50 days later as the first day of Shavuot, or Pentecost (Exod. 34:22).

The only possible way to resolve these glaring discrepancies, and for the Scriptures to be accurate, is to assume that Yeshua and the Pharisees had a different calendar than the Sadduceeans and the Sanhedrin. Right or wrong, since they controlled the Temple, the Sadducees also controlled the Temple’s calendar.

The day-names on the Hebrew calendar were in relation to Shabbat (not names in honor of pagan gods, as is our western calendar):

First Day of the Week: After Havdalah (approximately an hour after sunset) Saturday night until sunset Sunday night.

Second Day of the Week: Sunday sunset to Monday sunset.

Third Day of the Week: Monday sunset to Tuesday sunset.

Third Day Toward Shabbat: Tuesday sunset to Wednesday sunset.

Second Day Toward Shabbat: Wednesday sunset to Thursday sunset.

Erev Shabbat: Thursday sunset to 18 minutes before sunset on Friday.

Shabbat: from 18 minutes before sunset on Friday until three stars can be seen on Saturday night. This makes Shabbat almost 25 hours long.

So here is my interpretation (see the timeline chart here):

Based on the known facts, I developed the following chronology of the crucifixion/resurrection week. In order to accommodate for numerous “discrepancies” in the Gospel accounts, I have been forced to assume that the Pharisees and the Sadducees were operating on different calendars. I have not been able to find anything anywhere to support that assumption. Remember that on the Hebrew calendar, the day begins and ends at sunset, not midnight.

8 Nisan - Second Day Toward Shabbat (Thursday, which began Wednesday night at sunset)

Yeshua spends the day, and possibly the next, in Bethany with Lazarus, Mary, and Martha. (John 12:1-2)

10 Nisan - Shabbat (Friday night and Saturday)

Contrary to the Christian “Palm Sunday” tradition, Messiah’s Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem occurs on Shabbat (Saturday), not Sunday (Matthew 21:1-10; Mark 11:1-10; Luke 19:29-38). The Paschal Lamb is taken into the “House” (a Hebrew euphemism for the Temple) where He is carefully observed for defects until the 14th day of the month. Yeshua spends the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th of Nisan in the Temple being “examined” for any spiritual defect.

11 Nisan - First Day of the Week (Saturday night and Sunday)

Yeshua cleanses the Temple (Matthew 21:12-16; Mark 11:15-18; Luke 19:45-47; John 2:13-16) and spends the day teaching in the Temple and being examined by his “family,” the people, and the priesthood.

12 Nisan - Second Day of the Week (Sunday night and Monday)

Yeshua spends the day teaching in the Temple and being examined by his “family,” the people, and the priesthood.

13 Nisan - Third Day of the Week (Monday night and Tuesday)

Pharisaic Day of Preparation for Pesach?

Messiah spends the day teaching in the Temple and being examined by his “family,” the people, and the priesthood. The Pharisaic priests perform their Paschal Sacrifice.

3:00-6:00 pm: The Pharisees sacrifice their Paschal lambs "between the evenings."

3:00-6:00 pm: Yeshua’s Talmidim prepare the Passover Seder.

14 Nisan - Third Day Toward Shabbat (Tuesday night and Wednesday)

Pharisaic Pesach?; Sadduceean Day of Preparation for Pesach?

The day of 14 Nisan begins at sunset Tuesday evening, but by Hebrew reckoning, it is now the fourth day of the week, or the Third Day Toward Shabbat.

6:30-10:30 pm: Yeshua celebrates the Pharisaic Passover Seder with his Talmidim in the evening (beginning just after sunset).

10:30-11:30 pm: Yeshua prays in the garden while the Talmidim sleep.

11:30 pm: Yeshua is arrested in the garden.

12:00-7:00 am: All night long he is “examined for defect” by the Jewish Supreme Court (Sanhedrin), the secular court of Herod, and no defect (fault) was found in him. He is declared an acceptable sacrifice by both the Sanhedrin and Herod’s court.

7:00 am: Early in the morning Yeshua is taken before the court of Rome, where no defect (fault) was found in him. He is declared an acceptable sacrifice by Rome, the highest secular court in the world.

7:30-10:00 am: Yeshua is mocked, beaten, and scourged.

10:00-11:30 am: The Roman execution squad takes him to Golgotha, where He is crucified sometime before noon.

12:00-3:00 pm: Darkness covers the land from noon until 3:00 pm (Matthew 27:45; Mark 15:33; Luke 23:44).

3:00-4:00 pm: Messiah’s last few minutes. He breathes out His spirit shortly after 3:00 pm, at the same exact time that the Sadduceean Paschal Sacrifice begins in the Temple (between the evenings); the earthquake tears the temple veil from top to bottom.

4:00-5:30 pm: The execution squad confirms His death with a spear thrust. Yeshua is taken from the cross and is sealed in the tomb before sunset (which occurs approximately 6:30 pm).

15 Nisan - Second Day Toward Shabbat (Wednesday night and Thursday)

Sadduceean Passover?

6:30-10:30 pm: The Sadducees eat their Paschal Seder in confusion, wondering why the earthquake tore the Temple veil from top to bottom during their sacrifice.

6:30 pm-6:30 am: Messiah is in the tomb; the first night.

6:30 am-6:30 pm: Messiah is in the tomb; the first day.

16 Nisan - Erev Shabbat (Thursday night and Friday)

6:30 pm-6:30 am: Messiah is in the tomb; the second night.

6:30 am-6:30 pm: Messiah is in the tomb; the second day.

17 Nisan - Shabbat (Friday night and Saturday)

6:30 pm-6:30 am: Messiah is in the tomb; the third night.

6:30 am-6:30 pm: Messiah is in the tomb; the third day.

6:30-6:45 pm: The resurrection occurs almost exactly 72 hours after Messiah’s burial, within minutes after sunset, just as the First Day of the Week begins. Remember that Havdalah delays the end of Shabbat by almost an hour after sunset, until the first three stars can be seen. Technically, for that hour, it is both Shabbat and the First Day of the Week.

18 Nisan - First Day of the Week (Saturday night and Sunday)

Sadduceean First Fruits (the First Day of the Week following the seventh-day Shabbat that follows Passover).

Right or wrong, and regardless of how the Omer is "correctly" counted, the Sadducees control the Temple calendar, and for them it is First Fruits.

6:30-6:45 pm: Messiah’s resurrection occurs Saturday evening during Havdalah, almost exactly 72 hours after His burial, within minutes after sunset, just as the First Day of the Week (First Fruits) begins. Remember that Havdalah delays the end of Shabbat by almost an hour after sunset, until the first three stars can be seen. Technically, for that hour, it is both Shabbat and the First Day of the Week. (The “Sign of Jonah” is that Messiah will be “in the heart of the earth” for three days and three nights, so the time of His Resurrection needs to be calculated not from the time of His actual death, but rather from the time of His burial.)

6:45-7:00 pm: Within mere moments after the Resurrection, the women arrive at the tomb only a few minutes after sunset, as it was just becoming dark (perhaps only one star could be seen in the evening sky), the first possible possible opportunity to do so that Torah permitted, and discover the Resurrection has occurred: the tomb is empty.

This chronology, and the “dual calendar” theory it represents, resolves each of the interpretive “challenges” noted:

1. The “Good Friday/Easter Sunday” theory was discarded as simply intellectually untenable.

2. It demonstrates how Yeshua and His Talmidim ate their Passover 24 hours before the Sadducees ate their Passover.

3. It demonstrates how Yeshua literally fulfilled three key Messianic prophet pictures:

a. The Paschal Lamb (taken into the “House” on 10 Nisan and sacrificed on 14 Nisan)

b. The Sign of Jonah (a full 72 hours “in the heart of the earth”)

c. First Fruits (the first fruits of the resurrection)

It’s certainly not perfect, but it agrees with all of Scripture and allows for a literal fulfillment of these three critical prophetic signs.

I'm going to ask you to take a trip into absurdity with me.

Let's assume – for the sake of discussion – that for each messianic prophecy a randomly selected person has a FIFTY PERCENT CHANCE of fulfilling that prophecy.

In other words, pick somebody at random, anywhere in the world. We'll assume – for the sake of discussion – that there is a FIFTY PERCENT CHANCE that that randomly selected person was born in Bethlehem.

We'll assume that there is a fifty percent chance that the randomly selected person is a descendant of King David.

We'll assume there is a fifty percent chance that the randomly selected person was born of a virgin.

Etc., etc. Certainly, no one can say "Your estimates are unrealistically low. There's a much greater chance that a randomly selected person could be that."

Consider this: if you flip a coin, the chances are fifty percent that it will come up heads. If you flip it again, the chances are fifty percent that the second toss will come up heads. If you flip it a third time, the chances are fifty percent that the third toss will come up heads.

But what are the chances of the coin coming up heads THREE TIMES IN A ROW? One-half times one-half times one-half. In other words, write 2 three times, then multiply them together. The chances of getting three heads in a row are one in eight. The chances of getting four heads in a row are one in sixteen, etc.

If a person has a fifty percent chance of fulfilling each messianic prophecy, the chances of one person fulfilling four messianic prophecies are one in sixteen. In other words, using our absurd assumption that for each prophecy a randomly selected person has a fifty percent chance of fulfilling the prophecy, if we pick sixteen people at random, one person should fulfill the four prophecies. If we pick thirty-two people, two in the group should fulfill the four prophecies.

Let's move it up a step. What are the odds of getting ten heads in a row? What are the odds of one person fulfilling ten prophecies? ONE IN ONE THOUSAND TWENTY FOUR. If half the people on the planet were born of a virgin and half the people on the planet were descendants of David and half the people on the planet were born in Bethlehem, etc., still, only one person in 1024 would satisfy ten prophecies.

What are the Odds of Any One Person Fulfilling Twenty or Thirty or Forty Messianic Prophecies?

YOU'VE GOT THE CHARTFigure it out yourself!

The odds of one person fulfilling 40 prophecies are one in One Trillion, Ninety-Nine Billion, etc. . . . assuming that half the world's population was born in Bethlehem, half the world's population is descended from David, etc.

If that's not the case, the odds get worse!

YESHUA OF NAZARETH FULFILLED OVER

TWO HUNDRED MESSIANIC PROPHECIES

For 50 prophecies, multiply 1,024 times 1,099,343,411,976 – the answer is more than One Quadrillion.

For 60 prophecies, multiply that answer by 1,024 – the answer is more than One Quintillion.

YESHUA'S GENEALOGY

What Happened to G-d's Meshiach?

Baruch Haba v'Shem Adonai

HE WAS DESPISED AND REJECTED BY MEN.

Isaiah 53:3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 700 B.C.E.
(See the Crucifixion narratives in all four Gospels in the B'rit Chadasha.)

HE WAS HATED WITHOUT CAUSE.

Psalm 69:4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. 1000 B.C.E.

Isaiah 49:7 This is what the LORD says-- the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel-- to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers: "Kings will see you and rise up, princes will see and bow down, because of the LORD, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you." 700 B.C.E.

John 7:48-49 "Has any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? [49] No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law--there is a curse on them."

John 15:24-25 [24] If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. [25] But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: `They hated me without reason.'

HE WAS CUT OFF FROM HIS PEOPLE.

Daniel 9:25-26a [25] "Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks [i.e., seven-year periods] and sixty-two weeks [total = 69 'weeks of years', i.e., 483 years]; the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times. [26a] "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; and the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. 538 B.C.E.

HE HAD TO COME BEFORE THE DESTRUCTION OF THE SECOND TEMPLE IN 70 C.E.

Daniel 9:25-26a [NKJV] [25] "Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times. [26a] "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; and the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.

King Artaxeres Longimanus of Persia issued the decree to rebuild the temple on March 15, 445 B.C.E.

Prophecy years contain 360 days.

483 years of 360 days puts the cut-off date in April 30 C.E. -- "Palm Sunday" -- the day Yeshua of Nazareth in Galilee entered Jerusalem and was rejected -- cut off -- by the religious leaders.

Roman General Titus became a prince when his father, General Vepasian, became Emperor of Rome.

Despite specific orders by General Titus not to destroy the Temple, his soldiers destroyed it in 70 C.E.

The Temple was destroyed by the people of the prince who is to come.

HE WAS REJECTED BY RULERS.

Psalm 118:22-23 The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone [cornerstone of a building]; [23] the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. before 400 B.C.E.

Matthew 21:42 Yeshua said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures:" `The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes' ?

John 7:48-49a Has any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? [49a] No!

HE WAS REJECTED BY HIS OWN BROTHERS.

Psalms 69:8 I am a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my own mother's sons 1000 B.C.E.

Mark 3:20-21 [20] Then Yeshua entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. [21] When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, "He is out of his mind."

John 7:1-5 [1] After this, Yeshua went around in Galilee, purposely staying away from Judea because the Jews there were waiting to take his life. [2] But when the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was near, [3] Yeshua's brothers said to him, "You ought to leave here and go to Judea, so that your disciples may see the miracles you do. [4] No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world." [5] For even his own brothers did not believe in him.

(Note: Yeshua's brothers later came to believe Him when He visited them after He arose from the dead. Two of them, Jacob ("James") and Jude, wrote books that are part of the B'rit Chadasha.)

HE WAS BETRAYED BY A FRIEND.

Psalm 41:9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me. 1000 B.C.E.

Matthew 26:14-15 [14] Then one of the Twelve--the one called Judas Iscariot--went to the chief priests [15] and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty silver coins.

John 13:21,26 [21] After he had said this, Yeshua was troubled in spirit and testified, "I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me." [26] Yeshua answered, "It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish." Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon.

HE WAS BETRAYED FOR 30 PIECES OF SILVER.

Zechariah 11:12 I told them, "If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it." So they paid me thirty pieces of silver. 500 B.C.E.

Matthew 26:14-15 [14] Then one of the Twelve--the one called Judas Iscariot--went to the chief priests [15] and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty silver coins.

THE SILVER WAS RETURNED.
THEN IT WAS
USED TO BUY POTTER'S FIELD.

Zechariah 11:12-13 [12] I told them, "If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it." So they paid me thirty pieces of silver. [13] And the LORD said to me, "Throw it to the potter"--the handsome price at which they priced me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the LORD to the potter. 500 B.C.E.

Matthew 27:3-10 [3] When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Yeshua was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. [4] "I have sinned," he said, "for I have betrayed innocent blood." "What is that to us?" they replied. "That's your responsibility." [5] So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. [6] The chief priests picked up the coins and said, "It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money." [7] So they decided to use the money to buy the potter's field as a burial place for foreigners. [8] That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day. [9] Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: "They took the thirty silver coins, the price set on him by the people of Israel, [10] and they used them to buy the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me."

HIS FOLLOWERS SCATTERED.

Zechariah 13:7 "Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is close to me!" declares the LORD Almighty. "Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the little ones." 500 B.C.E.

Matthew 26:31 Then Yeshua told them, "This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: " `I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'"

HE WAS BEATEN WITH A ROD.

Micah 5:1 Marshal your troops, O city of troops, for a siege is laid against us. They will strike Israel's ruler on the cheek with a rod. 700 B.C.E.

Mark 15:19 Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they [mockingly] paid homage to him.

HE WAS GIVEN VINEGAR AND GALL TO DRINK.

Psalm 69:21 They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. 1000 B.C.E.

Matthew 27:34 There they offered Yeshua wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it.

Matthew 27:48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and offered it to Yeshua to drink.

HIS HANDS AND FEET WERE NAILED.

Psalm 22:16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. 1000 B.C.E.

John 20:25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it."

HE WAS CRUSHED FOR OUR INIQUITIES.

Isaiah 53:5-6 [5] But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. [6] We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 700 B.C.E.

Romans 4: 25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

1 Corinthians 15:3 *[NAB] I handed on to you first of all what I myself received, that Messiah died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures
*NAB=New American Bible (not NASB=New American Standard Bible)

HE TOOK THE PUNISHMENT WE DESERVE.

Psalm 69:4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. 1000 B.C.E.

Isaiah 53:5-6 [5] But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. [6] We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; andthe LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 700 B.C.E.

Romans 4: 25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

1 Corinthians 15:3 [NAB] I handed on to you first of all what I myself received, that Messiah died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures

HE WAS PIERCED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. 700 B.C.E.

Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. 500 B.C.E.

John 19:33-34; 36-37 [33] But when they came to Yeshua and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. [34] Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Yeshua' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. [36] These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken," [37] and, as another scripture says, "They will look on the one they have pierced."

NONE OF HIS BONES WERE BROKEN.

Psalm 22:17 I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. 1000 B.C.E.

Psalm 34:20 he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. 1000 B.C.E.

The Romans normally broke the legs of crucifixion victims. And yet, a thousand years before the Crucifixion of Messiah, King David foretold that the Messiah would die in an unusual way.

John 19:33; 36a [33] But when they came to Yeshua and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. [36a] These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken,"

SOLDIERS GAMBLED FOR HIS CLOTHES.

Psalm 22:18 They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing. 1000 B.C.E.

Matthew 27:35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

HE WAS BRUTALLY KILLED.

Isaiah 53:8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken. 700 B.C.E.
(See all four Gospels in the B'rit Chadasha)

HE WAS ASSIGNED A GRAVE WITH THE WICKED . . .

Isaiah 53:9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death 700 B.C.E.

Crucifixion was normally reserved for criminals and people the Romans wanted to "make an example of". As a crucifixion victim, Messiah would have been assigned a grave (if any) with such people.

BUT HE WAS BURIED IN A RICH MAN'S TOMB.

Isaiah 53:9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death ... 700 B.C.E.

Matthew 27:57,59-60 [57] As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Yeshua. [59] Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, [60] and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.

HE AROSE FROM THE DEAD.

Isaiah 53:8, 11 [8] By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken. [11] After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied(1); by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. 700 B.C.E.

(1) Note that the first part of Verse 11 is not in the Massoretic Text but is in both the Textus Receptus and the Majority Text manuscript sets.

Psalm 16:9-10 [9] Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, [10] because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. 1000 B.C.E.

Matthew 28:2, 5-7, 9 [2] There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. [5] The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Yeshua, who was crucified. [6] He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. [7] Then go quickly and tell his disciples: `He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you." [9] Suddenly Yeshua met them. "Greetings," he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.

HE WAS GIVEN AN ETERNAL KINGDOM.

Daniel 7:13-14 [13] "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. [14] He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. 538 B.C.E.

Matthew 28:17-19a [17] When they saw him [after the Resurrection], they worshiped him; but some doubted. [18] Then Yeshua came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. [19a] Therefore go and make disciples of all nations

??? WHY DID HE DO THIS ???

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Messiah died for us.

John 3:16-18 [16] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. [18] Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT YOU?

Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Yeshua is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED.

Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

G-D WILL JUDGE ALL WHO REJECT HIS MESSIAH.

Deuteronomy 18:18-19 [18] I will raise up for them a prophet like you [Moses] from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. [19] If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks inmy name, I myself will call him to account. 1400 B.C.E.

John 3:18 Whoever believes in him [Yeshua] is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

John 5:23b He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.

If Messiah did not come,
G-d must have lied!

THE GOOD NEWS OF THE L-RD'S MESSIAH YESHUA

1 Corinthians 15:1-8,11 [1] Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. [2] By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. [3] For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Messiah died for our sins according [i.e., in accordance with] to the Scriptures, [4] that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, [5] and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. [6] After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. [7] Then he appeared to Jacob, then to all the apostles, [8] and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. [11] Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed.

There is only one G-d.

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. (Hebrew echad)

Isaiah 44:6-8 [6] "This is what the LORD says -- Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God. [7] Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out before me what has happened since I established my ancient people, and what is yet to come -- yes, let him foretell what will come. [8] Do not tremble, do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago? You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one."

Mark 12:28-32 [28] One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Yeshua had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?" [29] "The most important one," answered Yeshua, "is this: `Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. [30] Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' [31] The second is this: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." [32] "Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him."

G-d has an echad nature--a single, indivisible G-d with three somehow distinct, yet totally inseparable "aspects":

  1. The Father -- HaShem
  2. Yeshua -- HaMeshiach
  3. Ruach Hakodesh -- The Holy Spirit

This is the concept of G-d's triune nature. The term is not expressly stated in the Bible but is implied by the fact that Yeshua and Ruach Hakodesh are spoken of in combination with the Father.

This is Messianic Judaism's most fundamental belief and understanding about the nature of G-d. Shema Yisrael, Adonai, Eloheynu, Adonai Echad.

Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

John 1:1-2 [1] In the beginning was the Word [another of Yeshua's names], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] He was with God in the beginning.

In the original Greek, the words translated the Word "was with" G-d literally mean the Word "was face to face with" G-d.

Genesis 1:1-2 [1] In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. [2] Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Acts 5:3-4 [3] Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? [4] Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God."

G-d is sovereign. He is ruler over everything.

Ezekiel 12:28 Therefore say to them, "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: None of my words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled, declares the Sovereign LORD."

Revelation 17:14 They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings -- and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.

All men have sinned against G-d, thereby pushing themselves away from G-d.

Romans 3:22b-23 [22b] ... There is no difference, [23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Romans 3:10-12 [10] As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; [11] there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. [12] All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."

Isaiah 64:6 All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

Sin separates us from G-d.

Isaiah 59:2 Your sins have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you.

G-d HATES sin.

Genesis 6:5-7 [5] The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. [6] The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. [7] So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth -- men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air -- for I am grieved that I have made them."

Psalms 5:4-6 [4] You are not a God who takes pleasure in evil; with you the wicked cannot dwell. [5] The arrogant cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong. [6] You destroy those who tell lies; bloodthirsty and deceitful men the LORD abhors.

Hebrews 12:28-29 [28] Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, [29] for our "God is a consuming fire."

Yeshua is literally the Son of G-d.

Romans 1:1-4 [1] Paul, a servant of Messiah Yeshua, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God -- [2] the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures [3] regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, [4] and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Yeshua Messiah our Lord.

Yeshua became a human -- fully human, with a flesh-and-blood body.

John 1:1-3, 14 [1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] He was with God in the beginning. [3] Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. ... [14] The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Hebrews 2:14-18 [14] Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death -- that is, the devil -- [15] and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. [16] For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants. [17] For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. [18] Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Note: Man's sin nature is passed through the father's blood-line as the "seed" of Adam. Yeshua's father was Ruach Hakodesh by supernatural conception, so He did not inherit Adam's sin nature.

After Yeshua became a man He had two natures. He was fully G-d and fully man.

See the preceding point for quotes establishing Yeshua's fully human nature after the Incarnation.

John 14:7, 9b,10 [7] If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." [9b] . . . Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. . . . [10] Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.

John 10:30 "I and the Father are one."

John 14:11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.

John 10:31-33 [31] Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, [32] but Yeshua said to them, "I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?" [33] "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."

John 17:5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

Messiah Yeshua lived as a man without committing sin.

1 Peter 2:21-22 [21] To this you were called, because Messiah suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. [22] "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."

John 8:46a Can any of you prove me guilty of sin?

"How can you say Yeshua didn't sin? What about when He went into the temple with the whip and threw people out?"

The Bible makes it clear that righteous anger is not sinful. Yeshua destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. Yeshua caused the Flood. (Compare Judges 13:18 [especially, King James or New KJV] and Isaiah 9:8: Who was The Angel of the Lord?)

Genesis 19:24 Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah -- from the LORD out of the heavens.

John 5:22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son

G-d sent Yeshua to save us from our sins by his death and resurrection.

Romans 5:8 God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Messiah died for us.

Romans 4:25 He died for our sins and rose again to make us right with God.

Yeshua voluntarily sacrificed Himself.

John 10:14-15, 17-18 [14] "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me -- [15] just as the Father knows me and I know the Father -- and I lay down my life for the sheep. [17] The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life -- only to take it up again. [18] No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."

(Note that in verse 18 "this command" does not mean that Yeshua was ordered to lay down His life. It means "I am the Commander and I received my authority from the Father.")

Romans 3:23-26 [23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [24] and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Messiah Yeshua. [25] God presented him [Yeshua] as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished -- [26] he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Yeshua.

1 Timothy 2:5-6 [5] For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Messiah Yeshua, [6] who gave himself as a ransom for all men -- the testimony given in its proper time.

Messiah Yeshua literally arose from the dead after three days, in a renewed, physical resurrected body.

This is one of the most fundamental and most important teachings of B'rit Chadasha.

1 Corinthians 15:12-24 [12] But if it is preached that Messiah has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? [13] If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Messiah has been raised. [14] And if Messiah has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. [15] More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Messiah from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. [16] For if the dead are not raised, then Messiah has not been raised either. [17] And if Messiah has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. [18] Then those also who have fallen asleep in Messiah are lost. [19] If only for this life we have hope in Messiah, we are to be pitied more than all men. [20] But Messiah has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. [21] For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. [22] For as in Adam all die, so in Messiah all will be made alive. [23] But each in his own turn: Messiah, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. [24] Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.

Yeshua saved us because of His mercy, not because we deserved it.

Titus 3:5a he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.

There is one mediator between G-d and man - Messiah Yeshua.

1 Timothy 2:5-6 [5] For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Messiah Yeshua, [6] who gave himself as a ransom for all men -- the testimony given in its proper time.

As a result of Yeshua's sacrifice, salvation is available to all mankind.

1 Timothy 2:5-6 [5] For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Messiah Yeshua, [6] who gave himself as a ransom for all men -- the testimony given in its proper time.

A lot of people are under the mistaken impression that we are saved because of Yeshua's sacrifice. It is important to realize that a person must do certain things to obtain salvation. Just because it is available doesn't mean he automatically gets it. Salvation is like a newspaper:

  • Someone had to do something in order for it to exist.
  • It's available before you ask for it.
  • You can't do it for yourself.
  • It doesn't come automatically.
  • You can't earn it.
  • You don't deserve to get it.
  • You have to ask for it.
  • You have to follow the rules if you want to keep it.
  • Once you receive it, it's up to you to do something with it!

Yeshua finished the work of salvation on Calvary. Nothing remains to be done to obtain salvation.

Hebrews 10:11-18 [11] Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. [12] But when this priest [Yeshua] had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. [13] Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, [14] because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. [15] The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: [16] "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds." [17] Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." [18] And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.

Many people think "Before I accept Yeshua I need to get some things straightened out in my life." If that is what you believe, you are trying to do additional work to get saved. In effect, you are saying "Yeshua can get me 95% of the way to salvation. But I have to do the first 5% myself." This is the exact opposite of what B'rit Chadasha teaches.

Salvation is a free gift from G-d, not something we can earn.

Romans 3:21-26 [21] But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. [22] This righteousness from God comes through faith in Yeshua Messiah to all who believe. There is no difference, [23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [24] and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Messiah Yeshua. [25] God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished -- [26] he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Yeshua.

There is nothing man can do on his own to obtain salvation -- no amount of good works, kindness, charity, etc., is sufficient.

When you get past all the surface appearances, every unbiblical religion teaches salvation by works -- if a person does enough of the right kinds of activities he will earn his way to salvation.

For example: Catholic Catechism, par. 2027 No one can merit the initial grace which is at the origin of conversion. Moved by the Holy Spirit, we can merit for ourselves and for others all the graces needed to attain eternal life, as well as necessary temporal goods.

Ephesians 2:8-9 [8] For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- [9] not by works, so that no one can boast.

Romans 3:27-28 [27] Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. [28] For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.

Romans 4:2-5 [2] If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about -- but not before God. [3] What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." [4] Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. [5] However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

To obtain salvation, a person must do all of the following:

  1. Admit he is a sinner
  2. Accept Yeshua as his personal savior and Lord
  3. Sincerely repent of his sins
  4. Sincerely intend to try to lead a new life without sin

Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Yeshua is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Acts 3:19-20 [19] Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, [20] and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you -- even Yeshua.

John 14:21-24 [21] Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him." [23] Yeshua replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. [24] He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

To obtain salvation a person must be born again, i.e., born spiritually.

John 3:3-8 [3] In reply Yeshua declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." [4] "How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!" [5] Yeshua answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. [6] Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. [7] You should not be surprised at my saying, `You must be born again.' [8] The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

If a person accepts Yeshua as his savior, G-d will forgive the person's sins and when the person dies G-d will give him great rewards, including eternal life.

Acts 3:19-20 [19] Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, [20] and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you -- even Yeshua.

John 11:25-26a [25] Yeshua said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; [26] and whoever lives and believes in me will never die."

Acts 13:38-39 [38] "Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Yeshua the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. [39] Through him everyone who believes is justified [saved from the eternal penalties for sin] from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.

John 3:16-18 [16] "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. [18] Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

If a person refuses to accept Yeshua, the person will be punished forever after he dies.

John 3:18 Whoever believes in him [Messiah] is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

Belief in some god or gods is not enough; G-d will only save those who accept Him.

See John 3:16-18 above.

See all of Isaiah Chapters 44-46 for more detail on G-d's view of worshiping other "gods."

Exodus 20:4-6 [4] "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. [5] You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, [6] but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Exodus 34:14 Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

Joshua 24:20 If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, he will turn and bring disaster on you and make an end of you, after he has been good to you.

Deuteronomy 32:15-21 [15] Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; filled with food, he became heavy and sleek. He abandoned the God who made him and rejected the Rock his Savior. [16] They made him jealous with their foreign gods and angered him with their detestable idols. [17] They sacrificed to demons, which are not God -- gods they had not known, gods that recently appeared, gods your fathers did not fear. [18] You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth. [19] The LORD saw this and rejected them because he was angered by his sons and daughters. [20] "I will hide my face from them," he said, "and see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation, children who are unfaithful. [21] They made me jealous by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols. I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding."

G-d doesn't reward commitment to just anything, He rewards commitment to Him.

How would you feel if your employer paid your salary to some other employee? And when you asked "What are you doing", your employer replied "I'm paying earned salary to an employee. I don't think it matters which employee I pay as long as I pay someemployee."

It is not enough to believe in "the Father". To be saved a person also must believe in Yeshua.

John 14:6 Yeshua answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Acts 4:11-12 [11] He is "the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone [cornerstone of a building] ." [12] Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

John 5:22-23 [22] Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, [23] that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.

John 10:7-10 [7] Therefore Yeshua said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. [8] All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. [9] I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. [10] The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

"Believing in Yeshua" means believing that Yeshua is G-d, not merely a messenger from G-d such as a prophet or an apostle.

See John 3:18 and John 14:6 above.

Compare: Koran Sura (Chapter) 5 verse 78 "Christ, the Son of Mary, was no more than an apostle."

Koran Sura 5 verse 75 "They do blaspheme who say God is Christ, the Son of Mary."

As these verses indicate, the Koran, the scripture of Islam, teaches and Moslems believe that Messiah Yeshua is not G-d. Like all others who don't believe in the deity of Yeshua, all Moslems, Hindus, etc., who believe the teachings of their religion are condemned to eternal punishment. Many people, both believers in Yeshua and non-believers, find this teaching offensive and call believers bigots, prejudiced, and/or narrow-minded. This belief is based on the teachings of the Bible, not on personal likes or dislikes. The vast majority of non-believers are nice, decent, kind, hard-working people. No true believer takes pleasure or joy in the thought of BILLIONS of people being punished for ETERNITY, but that is exactly what B'rit Chadasha says will happen to everyone who rejects Yeshua.

"Believing in Yeshua" means trying to live the way Yeshua says to live, not merely an intellectual belief.

Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Yeshua is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Luke 6:46 Why do you call me, "Lord, Lord," and do not do what I say?

Galatians 5:19-21 [19] The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; [20] idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions [21] and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

John 15:9-10,12,14,17 [9] "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. [10] If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. [12] My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. [14] You are my friends if you do what I command. [17] This is my command: Love each other.

Mark 10:17,19 [17] As Yeshua started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" [19] You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'"

Luke 10:25-28 [25] On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Yeshua. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" [26] "What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?" [27] He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind' ; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" [28] "You have answered correctly," Yeshua replied. "Do this and you will live."

YESHUA'S SUMMARY OF THE LAW

Without faith it is impossible to please G-d.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

There is a literal devil and demons. They are angels who rebelled against G-d.

Revelation 12:7-9 [7] And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. [8] But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. [9] The great dragon was hurled down -- that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

These fallen angels have chosen to do evil, and they seek to ruin the lives of humans.

1 Peter 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

[10] The thief [i.e., the Devil] comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Note: There is only one Devil -- Satan. However, there are many demons.

We are in the midst of a spiritual war.

Ephesians 6:11-12 [11] Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. [12] For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Yeshua came to destroy the works of the devil and his fallen angels so men may eternally have the best life possible.

John 10:10 The thief [i.e., the Devil] comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 3:16-17 [16] "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

1 John 3:8 He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.

It is important not to misinterpret passages such as 1 John 3:8a. It does not mean that a person who sins from time to time will be condemned. It means those who make a regular practice of sinning, those for whom sinning is a way of life, will be condemned.

The outcome of the spiritual war is already determined. Yeshua conquered death and sin for all eternity by His sacrifice on the Cross. He proved it by coming back from the dead.

Revelation 1:17-18 [17] When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. [18] I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades."

All men will be resurrected, both the righteous and the wicked.

Acts 24:15 and I have the same hope in God as these men, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.

At the Second Coming of Messiah, all believers who have ever lived (up to that point) -- both living and dead -- will be resurrected. This occurs at The Rapture.

The Rapture will be followed by the Tribulation. At the end of the Tribulation will be the first post-Rapture resurrection, followed by the Millennial Kingdom, then the resurrection of unbelievers, then the Great White Throne Judgment, then . . . ETERNITY.

Revelation 20:4-6 [4] I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Yeshua and because of the word of God. [These are the Tribulation martyrs.] They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Messiah a thousand years. [5] (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. [This is the second resurrection -- the resurrection of the wicked.]) This [resurrection of the Tribulation martyrs] is the first resurrection. [6] Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Messiah and will reign with him for a thousand years.

Actually, this is saying that there are two types of resurrection:

  1. resurrection of the righteous unto glory

  2. resurrection of the wicked unto everlasting punishment

Those who reject Messiah Yeshua will not be resurrected until the Great White Throne Judgment of the damned.

See Revelation 20:5 above and Revelation 20:11-15 below.

Yeshua is going to come back and judge everyone who has ever lived. He will reward the righteous and punish the wicked.

Jude 14-15 [14] Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: "See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones [15] to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him."

Revelation 20:11-15 [11] Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. [12] And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. [13] The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. [14] Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. [15] If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Daniel 7:21-22 [21] As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and defeating them, [22] until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom.

John 5:22-23 [22] Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, [23] that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.

There is a real, literal Hell. It is a specific place, with eternal fire. Those who are not saved will be imprisoned and punished there forever.

Revelation 20:14-15 [14] Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. [15] If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Note: The events of Revelation 20:14-15 above occur after the following passages.

Revelation 19:20 But the beast [the Antichrist] was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

In Revelation 20:1 Satan is bound for 1000 years. In 20:7-9 he is released, gathers an army and attacks the people of G-d but is defeated for the final time.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

The beast and the false prophet are still alive, after being in the lake of fire for 1000 years!

John 3:18 Whoever believes in him [Messiah Yeshua] is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

Biblical scholars have pointed out that Yeshua talked about Hell twice as much as He talked about Heaven!

YOU have a choice to make: (a) Accept Messiah Yeshua or (a) be separated from G-d FOREVER.
